Madeleine Korbel Albright

Overcoming the disadvantages of being both a woman and an immigrant, Madeleine Korbel Albright was sworn in as Secretary of State in 1996. She was unanimously confirmed by the Senate and became the highest ranking woman in the History of the US Government.

As the former President's chief advisor on foreign policy, she worked on peace issues around the world and helped negotiate treaties with other nations.
