Biggest difference in today's world comes from the technological revolution. With the new connected world of web 2.0 with wikis and learning on spot traditional organisational norms are no longer valid. In the past, you would have the highest knowledge due to high tenure in the company which would also justify hierarchy. today, the technology allows the frontline employee to know at least if not more than the manager. so the traditional manager role becomes irrelevant which forces us to rethink organisations and management. in this regard, shared leadership becomes the norm and modus operandi of smart companies..
